Pattern - Knitted cap (with optional tie-ons)

With 3 ply wool, and size 9 needles.
Measurements for full-term newborn baby - 10 cms/4 inches height from top to brim and circumference 26 cms/10 inches.

Measurements for premature baby - 9 cms/3.5 inches height from top to brim and circumference 23 cms/9 inches.

Tie-ons as required by St Philomena's - 18 cms/7 inches each.

 Start with 60 stitches and  work about 4 inches.
 60 stitches may be less, so check measurements to ensure 4 inches.
 Then work the shaping part-
 *K2 K2tog * repeat to end of row.
Next row purl
*K2 K2tog * repeat to end of row.
Next row purl
K2 together to end of row
K2 together to end of row

You will have less than 10 stitches now. Bind off.

Stitch the side,  leaving about 1 and half inches from the bottom open.

Add the tie-ons if required.
